OUT AND ABOUT— Ah, the beer float. Another trend to hit the LA streets (or restaurants, that is). In recognition of this new fad, Food GPS will host a Beer Float Showdown. In the right corner, The Golden State and Scoops, in the left, BottleRock and Milk. Who will take home the carbonated title as champ of the beer float? Taste 'em all and cast your vote on July 26 at Blue Palms Brewhouse. Tix, $23 now, $28 at the door. [Food GPS]

HOLLYWOOD— Back in February Daily Dish broke news about two new establishments on the horizon from restauranteur George Abou-Daoud (Bowery, Delancey, Mission Cantina). Looks like Sunset District is advancing as planned, as the eatery filed for its liquor license (currently pending) last week. Per DD, former Casa chef Kris Morningstar will handle the cookery and, like Abou-Daoud's other joints, Sunset District will exude a casual yet hip vibe. [EaterWire]

CENTURY CITY— For a preview of eats straight from new Vegas Top Chef contestant Michael Voltaggio, look no further than Breadbar. Come July 30 Voltaggio will serve as guest chef for the Hatchi series with his theme of choice, "An Experience of Texture and Flavor." [EaterWire]
