NBC4 Los Angeles (KNBC) and Telemundo 52 (KVEA) have teamed up with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, 98.7fm and Knott's Berry Farm to make the holidays brighter for kids throughout Southern California.
Under the annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Drive, guests bringing a new, unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more to Knott's will get into the Park free on Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2008 only. The collected toys will be distributed by U.S. Marine Corps Reserve personnel to underserved children throughout Southern California. The annual program is part of a nationwide U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
Knott's Berry Farm will sponsor a day honoring military personnel that will include a one-night tribute event on Friday, November 21st. The event will feature colorful military tributes, Toys for Tots kick-off ceremony, the lighting of the official Knott's Merry Farm Christmas Tree and a special concert by Dramarama, who will perform several of their hits including "Anything, Anything (I'll Give You)." NBC4's Fritz Coleman will emcee the tribute celebration and portions of spectacular holiday show will be broadcast LIVE on NBC4 Los Angeles, Telemundo 52 and 98.7fm. Additionally, Leading Malibu-based toy maker JAKKS Pacific will donate toys in support of the 2008 Toys for Tots campaign that takes place the first three weekends in December. While the park and event are open to the public on November 21st, only military personnel, with valid identification, will be able to enter the park with a guest free of charge.
This December’s Toys for Tots toy collection drive will include a free 98.7fm concert by Puddle of Mudd on the Park's Calico Stage at 6PM on Sunday, December 7. Puddle of Mudd's debut album in 2001, Come Clean, sold over 5 million copies and produced 4 hit singles including "Blurry," the most played song of 2002. Their latest release, “Famous,” features the #1 hit single “Psycho.”
On Sunday, December 14, the campaign will feature another free concert with The Airborne Toxic Event (Calico Stage - 6PM). Named by the Los Angeles Times in its year-end wrap-up as the band to watch in 2008, The Airborne Toxic Event is known for its energetic live shows and intense literary songwriting.
Guests participating in the Toys for Tots program on the first two weekends of the promotion can meet NBC4, Telemundo 52 and 98.7fm on-air celebrities before experiencing the holiday attractions at Knott's Merry Farm®. The Park, which has been transformed into a spectacular holiday wonderland, includes activities for the whole family including “A Peanuts’ Holiday Parade,” "Snoopy's Cool Christmas" ice spectacular and Elf Mountain.
The Toys for Tots campaign collected close to 90,000 toys at Knott's Berry Farm last year and hopes to exceed that number this December.
