Ouch: Police Plan Motorcycle Sting

If you're planning on driving around on your motorcycle this weekend, you'd better have the proper license. Because your odds of getting pulled over are going up.
The LAPD will be sending extra officers to stake out areas where motorcycle accidents are common over the weekend.
Then they'll be writing tickets.
No, motorcyclists, they're not just picking on you. They're trying to protect you.
Statistics show that motorcycle deaths are on the rise in California with a 51% hike in the last eight years. In Los Angeles, deaths are even more frequent, possibly due to heavy traffic, and have gone up 62% in the last four years. Most of these fatalities are in the 21-24 and the 55+ age groups.
But the traffic is not the only reason for these accidents; inexperienced riders are a leading cause. According to the LAPD, “Thirty-six percent of the motorcyclists killed in California are not properly licensed. Improper Licensing is a greater problem in younger riders, where 63% of the 16-24 year-old operators killed were not properly licensed.”
LAPD will be writing tickets not only to motorcyclists who are driving unsafely, but also other drivers, in an effort to keep everyone on the road -- especially 2-wheeled motorists -- safe.
