MIA DOI TODD: It's a bit of music magic when an album can summon a sense of place. Mia Doi Todd's "The Golden State" definitely did that for many people (including us), which was no small feat. The balladeer is at The Bootleg at 9PM along with the Good Listeners, Bone Gunn, and Paul Livingston (who starts at 8PM). 2200 Beverly Boulevard.
MORE MUSIC: DJ Fest USA invites 20 DJs on the Alex Theatre stage to spin, spin, spin; The Pixies start a trio of nights at the Palladium; Devo starts night dos at the Fonda with the full play of "Freedom of Choice"; and Jim Brickman delivers songs of the heart, via piano, at Cerritos Center.
"NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW": At AFI Fest 2009. Director Jonathan Demme made one of the seminal concert docs -- "Stop Making Sense" with Talking Heads -- so his look at the "Cinnamon Girl" man is sure to be riveting. And rocking. Riveting and rocking. It's playing at 10:30PM at Grauman's Chinese Theatre.
