We're fancying a bit of rockin' flute.

IAN ANDERSON: The flute is a beautiful instrument. The flute in rock music is a beautiful instrument, and a rare instrument. But when you do hear lilting, wisp-curly waves of sound backing hard-driving guitars, very often the man on the mouthpiece is Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, who is headed for the Wiltern tonight. We just want to repeat that. Ian. Anderson. Jethro. Tull. 7PM
WIDESPREAD PANIC: They've been jamming -- and we don't use that word lightly -- for nearly three decades, since first coming together in that golden-music-artist-nurturing town of Athens, Georgia. They're doing three nights at The Orpheum, starting tonight. Should we also mention they were just on the road with The Allman Brothers? We should.
"THE ROAD" SNEAK PREVIEW: It's the film many people have been waiting for, readers of the Cormac McCarthy novel, fans of Viggo Mortensen, flick fans in general. Now American Cinematheque is screening "The Road" at the Egyptian and inviting Mr. Mortensen, director John Hillcoat and some of the movie's main players to chat. 8PM
