ST. VINCENT: The music of former Polyphonic Spree-er Annie Clark is often called cinematic, but it isn't merely that her songs would be a good fit for a movie. They are little movies (see the video for "Marrow"). She's at El Rey tonight. We should also mention her song "Actor Out of Work"; such the title (and lyrics).
NOUVELLE VAGUE: Perhaps you saw this French pop group at the Oh La L.A. Festival last fall. Or perhaps you like music that summons black-and-white films of yore. We hope both. And we hope you'll be at the Fonda tonight for more stylish ditties. We like the Depeche Mode and Joy Division covers.
TOONSTRUCK: CARTOONS IN LOVE: Pepe LePew is in this line-up of Valentine's-ready animation shorts. Of course. As are other characters caught up in the tangles of the heart.
