9/24: Pet Shop Boys

PET SHOP BOYS: If electronic hooks thumping in a low-lit club frequently have you dancing into the wee smalls, thank Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe for being pioneers of catchy keyboardry. Synth got much swanker in their hands, and standards like "Always on My Mind" felt fresh. Remember the Dusty Springfield dueting? What have I, what have I, what have I... Sing along now, or at The Greek at 7:30PM.
FOUND FOOTAGE FESTIVAL: Where. Just where, is the question. That exercise demo. That unsettling cartoon. Where in the world did the hosts of this found video celebration find those almost supernaturally strange VHS tapes? They've got lots of sources, and they're bringing plenty of laughs to the M Bar. If you miss tonight, they've got two more shows tomorrow night, and then the little blinky green numbers on the VCR fall dark, at least for LA. 8PM
FINAL PATINA-DESCANSO WINE TASTING: At least for '09. If you've lounged around the gorgeous Boddy House at Descanso Gardens on a fall evening, you're probably eager to return. It's a mini-vacation -- you'll feel miles from the hubbub -- and that there's wine involved, and Patina is pouring, only adds to the away-from-hubbubery factor. It's 6-8:30PM. Mysterious gardens at night=goodbye workaday problems.
