Eye the Golden Globe Foreign-Language Nominees

It's rare to get the chance to see a passel of nominated films prior to a big awards ceremony (well, certainly if they aren't showing at every other multiplex around town). American Cinematheque is seeking to remedy that by screening the foreign-language nominees over several nights at the Aero Theatre.

Uli Edel's "The Baader-Meinhof Complex" screened on Wednesday, January 7, while the period-perfect "Everlasting Moments" from Sweden and Denmark and Ari Folman's "Waltz with Bashir" both screen on Thursday, January 8 (the latter, a portrait of war, is billed as an "animated documentary"). Finally, "I've Loved You So Long" (France) and Italy's "Gomorra" will be shown on Friday night, January 9.

We're thrilled with the idea of knowing what each, or most, of these films is about when their names are read at the Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday. And while we like the tradition around town of showing a lot of movies and shorts after an awards show, it feels like every movie in every major category should screen at least once ahead of time for the general public, if possible. Bravo, American Cinematheque...
