Franco, MOCA, and GH

The actor plays an artist with a show at MOCA.

When movie star James Franco showed up as a guest star on "General Hospital" a few months back, both film blogs and soap opera sites were abuzz.

Which doesn't happen nearly enough. It was a confident move on Mr. Franco's part, a fun move on the daytime drama's part, and oh, the headlines got plenty Francofied.

Now he's back. And he's not just back, but he's taking it on the road with the show, leaving the studio and gaining an audience. MOCA just announced that a special episode of "General Hospital" will shoot outside the the Museum of Contemporary Art outpost at the Pacific Design Center.

Making it, if you're counting at home, three unusual things going down: a movie star in a soap guesting spot, an out-of-studio shoot, and an audience for a daytime drama.

Mr. Franco will once again play an outlandish artist.

Our remaining question is this: Can soaps and movies and art mix it up more? Why not? What's the down side? We say throw in a few more artistic genres, too. Puppetry. Spoken word. Cooking.

The James Franco episode will air on the ABC show on Thursday, July 22. MOCA has a pdf with more.
