Tonight: Experimental Rock Opera

The future on stage at a theater with a past.

"NEW": Neon-coiffured socialites, an apocalyptic setting, rock-opera-esque hijinks, the mysterious Million Dollar Theater, two nights to see it without paying a penny. Are all of these things swirling in your head? Best get downtown then. And look for several local musicians to make cameos. Thursday, April 22 and Friday, April 23

MUSIC: Hole starts a two-night run at the Music Box @ Fonda (both are sold out; no shocker, really); Bonobo gets funky at El Rey; and the Monterey Jazz Festival tour brasses it up at Royce Hall. Plus: Natalie Merchant at the Aratani Theatre.

TCM CLASSIC FILM FESTIVAL OPENS: It's Turner Classic's first film festival. Robert Osborne will be at the opening night screening. And the flick? "A Star is Born" at the Chinese Theatre. A very Hollywood movie for a very Hollywood setting. 6 p.m.
