SERGIO MENDES: That bossa-nova-funky '60s sound that still pops up in movies that want to telegraph instant cachet? This musician was (and is) an innovator. Also on the Hollywood Bowl stage tonight and tomorrow is the nicely mellow and frosty-cool Morcheeba. 8:30 p.m.
KIM NOVAK IN PERSON: The "Vertigo" star is at The Egyptian tonight; "Bell, Book, and Candle" and "Pal Joey," which also stars the Chairman of the Board, will play. American Cinematheque says there will be a stand-by line for tickets, since the night is now sold out. 7:30 p.m.
SAVOR LOS ANGELES: Local desserts are the centerpiece of this evening at Miauhaus Studios. We want s'mores, and champagne, and a turn in the on-site photo booth. You'll want to get that ticket in advance, sweet-toothers. 7 p.m.
