Weekend: The Grove Lights the Big Tree

Stars, on trees and on stages, mark the next few days.

THE GROVE TREE LIGHTING: The fireworks, the faux snow, the celebrities (Mario Lopez, Charice, and David Archuleta, and more stars), the throngs of revelers. It's a huge holiday to-do, for sure, but there are a number of other tree lightings around town leading up to the Grove's Sunday, Nov. 21 flip-the-switch. The Americana, Hollywood & Highland, The Citadel, and Santa Monica turn it on.

MY HERO SHORT FILM FESTIVAL: If you've ever wished there could be some sort of film festival that celebrated people inspire other people, who do good work and devote their time and passion to causes that impact us all, well, wish granted. Hero-nice shorts get screened on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 20 at USC. Details.

CUPCAKE CAMP LA: We're seeing this one far and wide; LA Times just wrote up. So, what we're saying, is a lot of frosting fans'll be turning out, but we think that is a positive development. No one wants to buy a sweet treat and then proceed to eat it alone. Crumbs are tastier bunched together, and people have more fun bunched together, too. Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Music Box

LA METRO ART ADVENTURE: It's billed as "LA's only underground scavenger hunt!" Which means you'll be Metro-ing about the city and looking at some of the public art on display in various stations. The bonus part we're liking is you set your path. Saturday, Nov. 20 (Oh, Race/LA, the people behind this, say "this hunt is challenging," so take note serious scavengerists.)

THINGS THAT MOVE: You, on skates, at Pershing Square. You, on foot, down Wilshire, with other LA enthusiasts. And cars. So many shiny new gorgeous cars, at LA Convention Center.
