You've been to a singalong, we hope. Not a gather-the-family-around-the-old-upright singalong, although those are plenty charming (and our voice is *so* much better than our brother's).
We're talking get a whole bunch of people together, hundreds, thousands, put a famous movie on a screen, hand out lyric sheets or other related goodies, and get the whole kit-n-kaboodle to harmonize in unison. Come-together, full-throated bliss is what this is, if you like singing, movies, and making somewhat of a spectacle of yourself in public, and all of those things should be near the top of everyone's list.
On Thursday, July 16th, at 8:30PM, Outfest 2009 is taking one of the great movie musicals, on the screen, to the Ford Amphitheatre. The famous flick: "Funny Girl" with Barbra Streisand. Omar Sharif -- so stylish, so wonderful. The mustache, the fine haberdashery, we adore it. Ms. Streisand, in her school-girl-ish drop-waisted '20s frocks: inimitable. The whole feisty-Fanny-Brice-takes-on-the-world story brings a tear.
Whatever your week has been, could it *not* be improved by belting out "My Man" at the Ford? Or "Secondhand Rose"? Sing, people. Sing those cares away.
