What were we doing in 1912? Not much. Western Costume Company, on the other hand, was gearing up to costume the brightest lights in Tinseltown. Now, at almost a century old, this venerable landmark near Burbank Airport continues to gussy up both the film industry and Halloween enthusiasts seeking a really excellent, very well-made and straight-from-the-movies get-up for that important party.

Western dressed all the men in "Gone With the Wind" (and, let's be honest, Clark Gable looked sharper than sharp). And Dorothy's ruby slippers were created in Western's shoe shop. So count on Western's experts to know what is working on you (or not), what looks authentic and what is going to create that "pow!" moment when you stride into the room. Best of all, the costume you choose may have been used in one of your favorite films (that is totally braggable next time you're back home for the holidays). The size of the costume warehouse -- some 120,000 square feet -- is pretty much legendary, so we're guessing they can locate that perfect bit of frippery that will appeal to your most whimsical instincts.

We think a swashbuckler might be the ticket for us this year. Or a 1940s-era starlet. Or a starlet swashbuckler? Polka dots and leather boots? We trust Western can put that together.
