Hot dogs slathered in mustard? A squash-bean-corn bake? Hot dogs *in* a squash-bean-corn bake? Oh, American cuisine. You're deep and you're wide and you won't be pinned down here. Or anywhere.
And we love that. Because regional dishes, and the tasty, tie-a-napkin-on culinary map of America, should be always evolving, and varied, and delicious. And just in time for Independence Day, reservation-honchos OpenTable have released their fans' picks for the across-the-nation restaurants serving up the Best American Cuisine.
Places in Dallas and New York and Virginia and Maine got smooches in addition to three spots right here: Providence, Dal Rae, and the Dining Room at The Langham (which mentions on its site that it is "the only hotel-run restaurant in Los Angeles with a Michelin Star").
We've spoken of our affection for the Dal Rae's old-school steaks; the Dining Room at The Langham's warm carrot cake and the dungeness crab at Providence tempt as well. Pico Rivera, Pasadena, Hollywood. *Could* happen in one night, but we'll probably spread the trying-of-tastes out.
