Eel. Ostrich leg. Stingray. This is but a small selection of materials that Dutch import Jalda Hoff’s clutch-dreams are made of. Other picks for her modern, chic and incredibly understated collection include gold tinted jute (yes, the old fashioned potato sack material reincarnated) and the classics (python, patent, suede). Rich burgundy, sunflower yellow, Caribbean turquoise, and deep purple are just some of the saturated hues her little gems come in. “I originally quit my dayjob in 2005 [as a consultant for McKinsey] to design the fashionable computer bags that I was always looking for but could never find. But after designing my first clutch for a friend’s wedding, the requests just never stopped coming.” You can catch Jalda on sample sale this Friday, November 14, 6pm-midnight at 11564 West Pico Boulevard.

What inspired your latest collection?
This is a spring collection, so I wanted to do something colorful. I pick what I like, and I saw all these amazing exotic leathers that I immediately wanted to use. But I really don’t think in collections that much, I have too many ideas, whenever a new design pops into my head I try to realize it. The creative spark can come from anything.

Who’s the quintessential Jalda Hoff woman?
A stylish, intelligent woman who loves fashion and has a certain class. If I had to name a celebrity it would be Charlize Theron.

Who’s your favorite LA designer?
Azaara jewelry.

Who’s your favorite designer overall?
Dolce & Gabbana.

What are the advantages of working in LA over working in NYC?
The sunshine.

What’s your go-to shopping spot in LA?
Barneys, Saks, Neiman Marcus. It’s around the corner from my house.

What’s the season’s must-have item?
A blue accessory.

The season’s-not-under-any-circumstances – don’t care if you’re Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie – have item?
Over-sized clutches.
