Cabbage, Potato, Rye: Corned-Beef is St. Pat's Star Food

A savory sandwich gets the spotlight.

Corned beef has its devotees who stick by their favorite food year-round, but come March 17, the brisket-y meat rightfully grabs the culinary spotlight.

And whether you like it stacked high between two thick pieces of caraway-studded rye (slathered with hot mustard, of course), or just served up on a plate with a plain side of boiled potatoes, there are several tasty spots to find the traditional dish around Los Angeles.

For sandwichery, look first to delis like Canter's Deli on Fairfax (don't forget a side of those pickles that are brined with nutmeg and dill), and Nate 'n Al's in Beverly Hills. And Brent's three-decker corned-beef with Russian dressing is a famous stand-out at the Valley eatery.

If you prefer your corned-beef neat, with just a bit of cabbage and potato-ry to dress it up, Magee's at Farmers Market is a good stop. One of the Market's oldest tenants, Magee's is well-known for its tender beef and potatoes that are sliceable with the side of a fork. Plus, there's all that good-with-corned-beef Guinness at EB's bar, which is inside the Market and just a short walk.

Langer's is also celebrated for its corned-beef and cabbage, and would make an excellent nosh spot for people heading out of downtown for the L.A. Live event. Delicious.
