“A Dangerous Method” Trailer Chock-full of Spanking

The trailer for director David Cronenberg's "A Dangerous Method" has very quietly made its way into cyberspace, and we're surprised how surprised we are by the prevalence of corporal punishment.

"A Dangerous Method" stars Michael Fassbender and Viggo Mortensens as Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud, with Keira Knightley as Sabina Spielrein, Jung's patient-turned-protege with whom she allegedly had an affair.

In Cronenberg's film, based on the play "The Talking Cure," the affair definitely happened, and involved a fair amount of spanking. Considering Cronenberg's past films--"The Fly," "Crash," "Dead Ringers"--we should've seen this coming.

We have to say, we're mildly disappointed by the trailer. It isn't bad, but it didn't really grab us, either. But there's too much talent involved not to look forward to this one.

The trailer appeared today at ADangerousMethod-TheMovie.com, with no other information, not a synopsis or US release or nothing. But it's sure to be here in the fall, with an eye toward awards season.
