Having last year destroyed planet Earth, provocateur Lars Von Trier has set his sights on some cheerier fare, setting up a new film titled simply enough "Nymphomaniac." Sounds like Lars has cooked up another plum role for some lucky actress!
Having already had her genitals mutilated in "Anti-Christ," and lost her mind at the end of the world in "Melancholia," Charlotte Gainsbourg has agreed to subject herself to LVT's vision once again. So what's "Nymphomaniac" all about? Via Twitch Film:
NYMPHOMANIAC is the light and poetic story of a woman's erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-‐diagnosed nymphomaniac, Joe.
On a cold winter's evening Seligman, an old bachelor, finds Joe semi‐unconscious and beaten up in an alleyway. After bringing her to his flat he sees to her wounds while trying to understand how things could have gone so wrong for her. He listens intently as she over the next 8 chapters recounts the lushly branched-‐out and multi-faceted story of her life, rich in associations and interjecting incidents.
Reading that, one might reasonably think it were a pitch for a new series from the dearly departed Zalman King, but this being Von Trier, one can be reasonably sure that this will be a seriously discomforting, visceral experience.
And as they did with "Anti-Christ," Von Trier intends to use porn actors as stunt doubles, and he'll shoot two versions of the film, a hard- and softcore. Look for "Nymphomaniac" to arrive some time in 2013.
