“Dreamgirls” Director Bill Condon Might Nab “Breaking Dawn”

It is looking like the last leg of the "Twilight" films will be a two-part series and they both will be helmed by "Dreamgirls" director Bill Condon.

Citing unnamed sources, EW.com reports that Condon is the first choice for Summit Entertainment and that the two sides are deep in negotiations. The studio will also break "Breaking Dawn" into two parts.

The race for the coveted directing gig has been closely monitored, and Condon pulling ahead of the pack is big news. Names such as Gus Van Sant and Sofia Coppola were very much in the mix early on (Coppola apparently dropped out after expressing interest in directing one of the films).

If the deal gets done, Condon will spend the next year in Vancouver shooting the final chapter of the "Twilight" experience. His indie project "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" will be put on hold until the films are done.

How will the movies from one book be split? Sources tell the website that the wedding, honeymoon, Bella’s pregnancy, and the birth will all be told in the first movie. Part two will focus on Bella’s transformation into a vampire and Jacob’s relationship with Renesmee Cullen (Bella's daughter).
