Scorsese Closer to Tackling "The Invention of Hugo Cabret"
Speculation that Martin Scorsese will direct a film based on the children's book "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" is heating up.
The legendary director is in talks to take on the project with producer Graham King, reported Variety, who helped him win his long overdue Oscar, for "The Departed."
The story centers around a 12-year-old orphan who lives in a train station beneath Paris in the 1930s, where he spends his time trying to revive the robot originally discovered by his late father. The tale was inspired largely the the innovative French director Georges Méliès.
Brian Selznick has described his bestseller as "not exactly a novel, not quite a picture book, not really a graphic novel, or a flip book or a movie, but a combination of all these things. "
Weighing in at 533 pages, it features 284 illustrations, which the New York Times likened to movie storyboards. Sounds like an easy lift for someone like Scorsese.
