The film stars Helen Mirren as Prospera, a usurped queen sent packing on a ship bound for nowhere with only her 4-year-old daughter by her side. Here's more from a recent press release:
Prospera's journey spirals through vengeance to forgiveness as she reigns over a magical island, cares for her young daughter, Miranda, and unleashes her powers against shipwrecked enemies in this exciting, masterly mix of romance, tragicomedy and the supernatural.
Taymor is a true visionary, who at times creates stunning visual and dramatic landscapes. But like most visionaries, when things go wrong, they go horrible, horribly wrong. But we've got enough faith in Taymor and her great cast -- Mirren, Russell Brand, Alfred Molina, Alan Cumming, Djimon Hounsou, Chris Cooper, David Strathairn -- to be excited about this.
Mirren can next be seen in "Red" alongside Bruce Willis as a team of assassins who come out of retirement when the CIA targets them for termination, which will be here Oct. 15, and in the "The Debt," as one of a team of Israeli agents sent to kill a Nazi war criminal, out Dec. 29. The trailer for "Red" has us giddy with anticipation, "The Debt" less so.
"The Tempest" will arrive Dec. 10.
