“Where's Waldo?” He's Headed for the Big Screen

The book "Where's Waldo? In Hollywood" was released in 1993. Nearly 20 years later, that title is finally coming true.

MGM has bought the film rights to red-and-white vagabond's oeuvre, according to a press release that dropped yesterday.

“We are thrilled to be bringing the search for Waldo to the big screen. Along with our partners at Classic Media, we look forward to making a worldwide adventure that will appeal to Where’s Waldo? fans of all ages,” said MGM’s Jonathan Glickman in announcing the deal for a live-action family adventure.

“Waldo is the most searched-for character in the world,” said Eric Ellenbogen, co-CEO, Classic Media. “With thanks to MGM, fans everywhere will find Waldo in movie theaters with his motion picture debut.”

So who do you gte to play Waldo? Jim Carrey? Rainn Wilson? Stephen Colbert? Ed Helms?

"Waldo" books were a series of bird's-eye-view crowd scenes in which the titular character is camouflaged by a teeming mass of humanity--what direction they go in story-wise is anyone's guess. We're having nightmare visions of some insanely gimmicky presentation where they arm kids with laser pointer and the action freezes until some eagle-eyed tot points him out.

And the sequel could find Waldo crossing paths with Jennifer Lopez as Carmen San Diego!
