Facebook Breaks — But Only for a Half-Hour

According to Facebook, for a half-hour on Thursday the social network of more than 1 billion crashed.

"Sorry, something went wrong," the error page explained to users who tried to log on around 4 a.m. eastern time, according to CNN. Facebook's error message also went on to say that it was working on the problem and getting it fixed.Within a half hour, it was back up and working.

It wasn't clear what caused the glitch and Facebook wasn't illuminating anyone. "Earlier this morning, we experienced an issue that prevented people from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time," Facebook spokesman Iain Waterman told CNN. "We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100 percent. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused."

With Facebook down, many users went to Twitter to vent about the social network not working and tweet-counting site Topsy said the numbers rose to a height of 70,000 tweets early Thursday morning.

While many may express their dislike, distrust or uninterest in Facebook, a good number of its users were still annoyed at the outage. Perhaps Facebook isn't dead after all.
