Facebook Creating Drone Team

Facebook is hiring members for its new drone team, according to reports.

Facebook posted three new openings seeking "avionics, thermal, and power systems and control engineers" to work on aerospace projects in its London office, the Re/Code reported.

The postings appeared after Facebook acquired British drone maker Ascenta in March, and Facebook confirmed the postings. Although the postings are based in California, the new employees will be working closely with the U.K. team "to assist in the development, inspection and testing of a high-altitude solar powered aircraft.”

Zuckerberg has said that Facebook is going into the drone business in order to get Internet access to isolated parts of the world. According to the report, Facebook could get its first aircraft flying in 2015.

Google has also spent time in aerospace, including testing drones in New Mexico in September.
