A new report says that Google received more media attention than any of its competitors, including Apple.
Dow Jones tracked the coverage and crunched numbers of mentions across thousands of English-language print publications between Jan. 1 and Dec. 1, 2013, according to VentureBeat. Google narrowly defeated Apple's press juggernaut, with 123,769 mentions to Apple's 120,451. Last year, Apple had 165,100.
The biggest spike in mentions came from Google's I/O developer conference in May. Apple's spike came in September when the new iPhone 5S and 5C models were released alongside iOS 7. Other companies were much further down the list: Microsoft, 84,174; IBM 48.734; and Sony with 46,468.
