Google Working on New TV Box

Google introduced Chromecast earlier this year, and is now rumored to create a new version of Google TV that will appear under the Nexus brand, according to a new report.

The rumor is that Google will create new Android hardware, a new set-top box, that will run Android game apps as well as other media, according to Engadget. It will not carry live TV.

It's not clear how this new set-top box will work with its $35 Chromecast dongle which has proven popular. Previously we reported that Google had "retired" the brand Google TV, and that Google was focused on Chromecast, although at the time there was a possibility of it being called Android TV.  According to the report, Google will likely use the Nexus brand which has also been more successful, such as with the Google Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 tablets.

Perhaps this is all about branding a much-maligned product, but why try to bring it back when a new one is working just as well if not better? Perhaps Google should attempt to grow its Chromecast dongle and brand rather than create another device.
