Google's Auto-Complete Contested in Japan

Sometimes the auto-complete function on any device, including Google's search bar, can be annoying. Sometimes, however, it can save a half-second.

A Tokyo man claims it cost him his job -- and any chance of getting a new job, according to The Japan Times.

The unnamed litigant swears that when you type his name into Google, the user gets words suggesting criminal acts "which he is unfamiliar with" if the computer-generated words are selected.

The newspaper reports that the man asked Google to remove certain words from this particular search return, but they refused.

The lawsuit seeks to end Google's use of the feature, which they are rejecting out of hand.
