New App Comes With $77,000 Tool

A video game app with a $77,000 Diamond pick axe? There's an app for that.

Veteran video game-maker Peter Molyneux has put out a long line of video games like Dungeon Keeper, Populous and Black & White.

His latest might have the most interesting monetization strategies seen on an app in recent memory.

The game is called Curiosity and it will be available on iOS devices such as the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch and Android devices and PCs on Aug. 22.

And the plit is simple: Users chip away at a cube made of 60 million smaller cubes in the hopes of unraveling a mystery at the center of all those cubes.

Up to one million people can play the game at once and they can all chip away at the virtual cubes using a virtual chisel.

But one lucky (?) user will get the chance to spend 77,000 not so virtual dollars on a pick axe that is 100,000 times more powerful than a regular chisel, giving them the best chance to win the game.
