Despite reports and complaints that the new iPad runs hotter than its predecessor, Apple says it's not a problem.
“The new iPad delivers a stunning Retina display, A5X chip, support for 4G LTE plus 10 hours of battery life, all while operating well within our thermal specifications. If customers have any concerns they should contact AppleCare," Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller told All Things D.
Some tests have shown that the new iPad measures 92.5 degrees Fahrenheit, significantly warmer than the iPad 2's 82.9-degree heat.
Consumer Reports found it to be 13 degrees hotter.
Complaints on the Apple forum seem to indicate users are unhappy with the temperature, even calling it "uncomfortably warm" and that a user could "cook some eggs on it." Several said they were returning the device, while others said they only experienced momentary heat fluctuations.
Still, the complaint got Consumer Reports involved, and the consumer advocacy group will conduct tests and release their findings on the new iPad today, according to Reuters.
Most of us remember back to the antenna problem with the iPhone 4, when Apple attempted to downplay and deny there was a problem. Let's hope if this proves as troublesome that Apple quickly fixes the glitch rather than dragging its feet.
