A report that Facebook's chief operation officer Sheryl Sandberg may run for the U.S. Senate has been scotched by an unnamed source, according to a report.
Sandberg was reportedly looking into running for the U.S. Senate, possibly the seat held by Sen. Barbara Boxer, according to the Daily Mail. However, that report was negated by a "source close to her" that said it wasn't true, the Mail also reported.
Sandberg, a billionaire who is one of the world's wealthiest women, was said to have been interested in politics for years. She also managed daily operations of the U.S. Treasury as chief of staff to Treasury Secretary Larry Summers from 1996 to 2000.
The Daily Mail article quote an unnamed source that Sandberg saw "politics as her future" and suggested she had the personal wealth to bankroll a Senate run.
However, the the close source said the rumors were "100 percent untrue."
While Sandberg's name has been bandied about by Democratic supporters and others have speculated about her entering politics, there has yet to be any real proof of her working towards a political career. Still, after a bestselling book and a great career in the tech field, Sandberg is in a prime position to be a successful political candidate.
