Tell Google's Ads to Stop Targeting You

You're probably used to it by now: Google ads that are weirdly specific to you, either on Gmail or around the web in general. How does Google know you recently were in the market for a new TV? And will they cut it out?

Well, now Google has released some new tools that add some transparency to its targeted ad system. Now, you can click the "Why This Ad?" button under a targeted ad, and it'll tell you what you did to be marked for it. Don't want to see that sort of ad again? You can block ads of that type under the Ads Preferences Manager.

It's a pretty solid move from Google, as when it comes to targeted ads, transparency and control are pretty damned important.
