Compton Parents Pull the Trigger

The big national education story of the day is a California one: parents at McKinley Elementary school in Compton are using a new power under state law to demand changes in the school.

How or whether it will work is unclear. This is the first time this so-called "parent trigger" law has been employed. Parents under the law have the right to present a petition (signed by a majority of parents) to demand a specific change -- in the Compton case, the change demanded is to bring in a charter school company to run the school.

Expect legal challenges and plenty of fighting before this goes forward. More details via the LA Times.
