We Don't Like It, But Let's Take Our Cut

Tomorrow, a state Senate committee will consider a bill to legalize and tax Internet poker. As legislators scramble for funds, this bill is starting to get more attention.

At Prop Zero, we expressed some skepticism about the subject recently. But Barry Fadem, a veteran election attorney (who had a key role in the initiative that established the state lottery), is on the case.

Fadem argues that since an estimated two million Californians are playing video poker anyway -- that's more than 1 in 20 (which isn't that much lower than the percentage of Californians who voted in this month's elections) -- the state should regulate the games and take a cut of the revenue.
