Dodgers’ Beckett Done for the Season

The return of Josh Beckett to the Dodgers rotation this season is not to be.

The right-hander has been on the disabled list since August 8 with left hip impingement, and talking with reporters before Wednesday’s rubber match against the Washington Nationals, manager Don Mattingly said the injury has effectively ended his season.

“I think the timing of him being able to get back is probably not very possible at this point, that we’re going to be able to see him again this year,” Mattingly told the LA Times.

Mattingly also said that it’ll be Beckett’s decision whether or not he has surgery on the hip.

If the 34-year-old is done, he finishes the season with a 6-6 record and a 2.88 ERA in 115 ⅔ innings pitch.

He also leaves a huge void in back end of the Dodgers rotation.

Dan Haren will likely occupy the No. 4 spot, with the fifth spot to be by committee between Roberto Hernandez, Carlos Frias, Kevin Correia, etc.
