Greinke, Dodgers Shut Out Padres

The Dodgers went 11-8 this season against San Diego

Zack Greinke looks ready to go for the playoffs after a short five-inning performance against the Padres on Sunday. The Dodgers won 1-0 in a short, offensively-void contest against San Diego in the final game the divisional opponents will play this season.

Greinke gave up two hits and one walk with three strikeouts in five scoreless innings. He threw three perfect frames, and only had one inning where a runner reached second base.

Michael Young gave Greinke a break with a couple of nice defensive plays, including a double play in the second, and a nice pick and strong throw in the third to help keep a run from scoring.

The Dodgers only had two hits through six innings, until Adrian Gonzalez hit a single in the seventh inning. With two outs, Young doubled to the wall and Will Venable bobbled the carom giving Gonzalez enough time to score from first to break the scoreless tie. It was the only run scored by either team in the game.

Out of the bullpen, the Dodgers got four innings of scoreless relief from J.P. Howell, Chris Withrow and Kenley Jansen. Jansen easily over-powered the Padres as he struck out the side for his 27th save of the season.

The Dodgers went 11-8 in 19 games against San Diego this season. The Padres are the only divisional opponent they have a record over .500 against, with three games remaining against San Francisco and Colorado.

They have an off-day on Monday as they travel to San Francisco for three games with the Giants. On Tuesday, Hyun-Jin Ryu will take the mound to kick off the series against Matt Cain.
