Dodgers' Ryu Removed from Start with Injury

The 27-year-old has become one of the best number three starters in baseball

You knew something was wrong when a pitcher as accurate as Hyun-Jin Ryu walked strikeout maven B.J. Upton.

After missing with a slider to Upton during Wednesday’s start against the Braves, Ryu called out the training staff, grabbed his right leg and knelt down in pain.

But, Don Mattingly can put the panic button away. Ryu didn’t snap a hamstring, instead the team says the lefty pulled a muscle in his backside.

To add insult to injury, he took the loss in a 3-2 Dodgers defeat.

The good news for the club is the injury is not disabled list worthy, because they can’t afford to lose Ryu. Other than ace Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers rotation has become a bit of a mess lately.

Zack Greinke has lost four of his last six decisions, Dan Haren’s ERA has ballooned to 4.50, Josh Beckett is out with a bum hip.

With another Dodger pitcher nursing an injury, the move by General Manager Ned Colletti to pick up two band-aids in the form of Kevin Correa and Roberto Hernandez seems like a smart move right about now.
