Lakers Practice Report: Back-to-back Looming

The Lakers met in El Segundo on Monday morning ahead of a back-to-back and on the heels of their first victory of the season.

The Los Angeles Lakers met for practice on Monday morning following a much-needed victory on Sunday night.

With the team traveling to Memphis to face the Grizzlies on Tuesday night and to New Orleans to face the Pelicans on Wednesday, Monday's practice did not allow much time to celebrate Sunday's victory.

"It was a good win," Lakers coach Byron Scott said when briefly looking back on the team's lone win. "The guys got a good taste of it last night."

Before enjoying the taste for too long, the coach began to look ahead.

"From this point, it's just going forward," Scott added. "Not taking a step back, that's the biggest thing we want to do right now is continue to grow as a basketball team."

For Lakers' forward Ed Davis, the trip to Memphis provided an opportunity to return to the team that cut him loose after a season and a half.

"Coach Scott is giving me the chance, and obviously, I'm stepping up," Davis said on Monday. "I'm ready for it."

Asked about whether he was not ready in Memphis or if he was not provided an opportunity to succeed with the Grizzlies, Davis said "100 percent," it was a lack of opportunity.

"It's a lot of motivation going back there because they gave up on me," the 25-year-old added. "It is a team that I definitely want to get a win against."

Scott said Ryan Kelly and the injured contingent would continue to travel with the team with Julius Randle and Steve Nash not expected to be part of that group. Randle was visible at practice working on an arm bike, but the rookie with a broken leg is expected to miss the season.

Nick Young was also at practice, and on this occasion, the Lakers' guard could be seen shooting jump shots. Scott, however, insisted that Young's timeline for recovery had not changed at all.

The Lakers travel to Memphis on Monday evening and will tip off in Tennessee at 5 p.m. Pacific Time.
