A Rustic Maker Paso Party

Are you a maker at heart with a fondness for a fresh-air holiday? The Central Coast calls.

HANDMADE AND HOLIDAY-TASTIC: Makers make all year long, whether they're creating letterpress stationery or ribbon bracelets or tables made from reclaimed wood or crocheted scarves or all of the above. But November and December have a way of supercharging this creative impulse, whether a person keeps their hands, minds, and inspiration busy throughout the year or not. Adoring the handmade-y aspect of the holidays is something many people do, but not many people have access to an event that provides the materials, and instruction, and seasonal setting, that allow that making spirit to properly flow. There shall be much festive flow in the general Paso Robles region over the first and second Saturday in December, when two wreath-making workshops land at Jack Creek Farms and Olivas de Oro Olive Company.

THE JACK CREEK FARMS DAY... is a fundraiser for Special Olympics, and the materials provided include "freshly harvested greenery, a wreath frame, ribbon and wire, along with lots of help to assist you in creating the perfect holiday wreath." The donation? Thirty bucks, and there shall be posh s'mores to nosh upon and hot cider, too, plus the enjoyment of the rustic-gorgeous Templeton location, which just looks exactly like the place you'd be inspired to make a wreath. Saturday, Dec. 5 is the date.

THE OLIVAS DE ORO OLIVE COMPANY... wreath-making party lands on the following Saturday, Dec. 12, and there shall be chances to taste vinegars and olive oils, in addition to noshing upon cookies and warm bevs. The donation? It's ten bucks (at least, though give more, if you can). The beneficiary? The local food bank. The feeling of making something in a picturesque Central Coast town? There's no dollar amount tied to emotion, of course.

ARE YOU DOING PASO... to see some wineries and catch some shopping in the December days ahead? Do you wish you can haul something special home, besides a few bottles of nice syrah? Here's your get-out-on-a-farm or into-an-olive-rich-area chance, lovers of hands-on, holiday-cute stuff.
