SHAKE YOUR HIPS: 'Tis the season of flash mobs, or nearly; when the fall and winter holidays arrive, so do throngs of happy Santas and boogie-cool zombies, doin' their stuff out in public plazas and parks. With that in mind, we weren't surprised at all to hear that an Elvis flash mob is in the works in Orange County as a happy, hip-swaying herald to the official flash mob season. There happens to be a big Presley-cool festival at the OC Marketplace in Costa Mesa on Sunday, Aug. 26, too, so it makes sense that there'd be a public dance to celebrate The Magic of Elvis in the days ahead. And that's exactly that this particular flash mob aims to do; raise awareness of the fest and have a little sequin-jumpsuited fun in the process.

There aren't too many details on the wheres or whens right now -- such is the nature of the flash mob -- but here is what we do know: An initial rehearsal happens at the Orange County Fairgrounds on Monday, Aug. 13. There are going to be a few goodies given away to flash-mobbers -- think Elvisian eyewear -- and a chance to shake it again at the Aug. 26 festival (oh, and you'll get two free passes to that, too, if you join in the earlier flash mob). Plus, hello, participating in an Elvis flash mob? That goes on the top of your Linkedin page, right?
