Free S.T.E.A.M.: Imaginology Family Festival

Thinking, dreaming, and big ideas flourish, in Costa Mesa.

BUILDERS, DOERS, DREAMERS: Anyone who has spent a good amount of time with a kid knows that a plan to create or construct or draw or bake or assemble something aaaamazing (or fantastical or weird or all of the above) will soon be hatched. Young thinkers often give free flow to their imaginative fancies, fancies that are very much served by S.T.E.A.M. and all of the big BIG ideas it so aptly represents and promotes. What's S.T.E.A.M., which is rightly picking up a lot of steam these days? It's the focus on science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics as essential, innovative, and world-enhancing pursuits for students and all people who want to participate in positive exploration and change. But that shouldn't overwhelm, not when there are weekends like Imaginology to nicely serve those interested in S.T.E.A.M. with a variety of activities and games and you-build-its and demos and learning opportunities. The OC Fair & Event Center welcomes three days of Imaginology from Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26, and the themes are "free" and "family fun" and "educational activities."

ON THE DOCKET: Look for a chess tourney, scarecrow and sawhorse competitions, workshops that teach kids how to make lace and soap, and interactive exhibits celebrating feats of engineering. In the growing, lifestock, agriculture there shall be "chicken petting" (oh yeah) and tractor rides and 4H displays and animals to observe and learn about. Call the full spectrum of full knowledge for kids who are have a growing interest in particular aspects of the world. Whether they love painting, raising pigs, building structures, or solving thorny problems that require a little deep physics know-how, a weekend of S.T.E.A.M. is a fine way to further those interests. Also nice? While parking has a fee, the whole event is free to attend.
