Mammoth Mountain: This Is April

Guess what? There's (lots) more snow up the Sierras.

WELP! There's lots more snow up in one of the snowiest spots around, and this is no April Fool's joke, as April Fool's Day happened a week ago as of this typing, and the fourth month of the year is slowly moving toward May. And the snow arriving at Mammoth Mountain just ahead of the second weekend of April wasn't of the "five minutes of flurries and done" assortment, no sirree. Some 20 to 26 inches of flakeage fell in and around the ski resort overnight on April 6 and 7, and sky watchers are predicting up to five feet "at the top of the mountain" courtesy of this particular storm. Which means the whole Memorial Day Weekend ski scene, and into the Independence Day runs, look to be more and more merry. As for the base? The Main Lodge is at 165", the Summit stands at 320", and some 562 inches have fallen this season at the Main Lodge. CALI4NIA PASS, which is A) on sale at its "early-bird rate" and B) may be used "immediately" at Mammoth Mountain (not to mention June Mountain and Big Bear). So if you want to get some spring skiing in, which, let's be frank, is a lot like heart-of-winter skiing as of early April, you can buy your 2017-2018 pass and use it right now. Aaaand, then, have for when everything revs up, in November, for another (fingers/poles/mittens crossed) big season. Tempted? Want to go? Want to see all of that snow for yourself?
