Modernism Week Fall Preview 2016

The stylish desert bash has tours, talks, more.

WHEN YOU BOAST A BASH... so big that it practically takes up a full half of a month, what's the next step? Throwing a mini bash, of course, during a different time of the year, to fully capture all of the sparkle that your event contains. That's just what Modernism Week in Palm Springs has been doing the last few years, and to great acclaim. Look to the major event, the one that happens in February, the 11-day whoop-di-doo that covers all manner of mid-century-ism, from architecture to car design to interior design to music and style. Then look to the fall calling card, the one that comes a few months before the February gathering, the weekend-long party that promises all of the good things soon to come. It's the Modernism Week Fall Preview, and it will happen at points around P.S., and the Coachella Valley, from...

OCT. 21 THROUGH 23, 2016: An opening night party, a walking tour of the Sunnylands estate, double-decker architectural bus tours (including one helmed by pop culture wit Charles Phoenix), and a sale devoted to prime mid-century-iana are all on the three-day roster. Look also for a cocktail fundraiser spotlighting the architect E. Stewart Williams (the soiree will raise funds to support getting his buildings onto the National Register for Historic Places). Film screenings and talks round out the very full three-dayer. Is this your bag? And all that jazz? Are you mad for mid-century, and especially how it has been eye-poppingly expressed around Palm Springs? Best book your hotel room soon, for the party before the party, which is truly a whole shebang unto itself.
