Little more than a mile off Pomerado Road in Rancho Bernardo, North County San Diego lies one of the area's best kept secrets.

The Bernardo Winery is the oldest operating winery in Southern California, dating back to the 1860s.

Any day is a good day to visit - the tasting room is open 7 days a week. Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost: $8 for 5 tastes. Logo glass included with a bottle purchase.

You can stroll the village shops, take in the Friday's farmers market during the summer or and even get in on the fun of the annual grape stomp in Septmber.

Even if you don't get your feet wet it's still a hoot just watching others step into the big, wooden vats and "start stomping."

Get directions, ticket information and find out all the other cool things there are to do, see and taste at Bernardo Winery.
