A FAIR FAIR TRADITION: We kind of love when both meanings of a word come into play at the same time, and a few shadings of "fair" are in full effect during our large county spectaculars. You could say a fair is fair, if the weather is fine and the temperature is moderate, true. But when really good deals and discounts are offered, well, a fair is fair yet again. Orange County Fair will have a number of get-in-for-less discount days during its month-long Costa Mesa run, so best keep track. Those discount days include...

KIDS' DAY: Have a few tots in tow? Each Thursday is Kids' Day at the ride-laden party, meaning young'uns age 12 and under get in for free. Seriously, that's some sweet dealage right there. And, please. Thursday. That's practically the start of the weekend.

SENIORS' DAY: That arrives on Friday, speaking of the start of the weekend. We love this one, too: free merry-go-rounds and Ferris wheel rides all day long for fair goers age 60 and over. No joke, we would ride the Ferris wheel at least a dozen times. Oh, this deal shaves two dollars off a senior admission.

EARLY BIRDS: But what of the weekends, you ask? As you well should: Those are the fair's busiest days. But there's even a special to be found on Saturdays and Sundays: three bucks to get in if you arrive between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. You can totally do that, right?

For all the discounts and deals, check out the OC Fair page. School supply drives, We Care Wednesdays, and more special events round out the calendar, giving fair goers a chance to donate goods and give back even as they play. Nice.

The Orange County Fair runs from Friday, July 12 through Sunday, Aug. 11.
