Oxnard Appetites: Hamburger and Hops Festival

Dig the California Beer Festival? The same people are backing this chow-down bash.

REPUTATION ON THE RISE: The multi-city, NorCal and SoCal California Beer Festival has been growing in sudsy stature over the years. Not only does it visit a quartet of California cities -- hello, Marin, Santa Cruz, San Dimas, and Ventura, plus a new cruise that heads out to the wider ocean -- but it serves as a brew-tastic base for other festivals to form. Case in point? The Hamburger and Hops party, which is about to have its second outing in Oxnard. It's the 2nd annual Hamburger and Hops, and once again the California Beer Festival people will round up some of the craftiest makers and purveyors of interesting beers around. It's a family-friendly event, do note, and food'll be very much at the heart of it (just in case you're trying to differentiate, in your noggin, just a bit, how this party is different from its cousin, the California Beer Festival).

AS FOR THE FOOD MASTERS... on the scene? Burt's Chicken Fingers & Garlic Fries, Burt's Deep-Fried Pretzels, Tacos de Mexico, and a few other grills of meaty greatness'll show up on Saturday, May 2 at The Collection at RiverPark. As for the brewers and creators of strong sips? Mike's Hard Lemonade, Angel City Brewery, and Poseidon Brewing Company will all be there, too, with cups and taps in hand.

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT... rounds it all out. Doesn't it feel a little summery to you? Perhaps it'll inspire that vibe you get at a California Beer Festival, which kicks off in Marin on June 20. Will you follow the tour around this year, from the Bay Area all the way to Ventura in the fall? Well, you'll probably clock fewer miles than visiting, individually, all of the breweries that show. (Though beer buffs do have bucket lists in that realm, too.)
