THE RAIN... of January 2017 will long be remembered, and definitely up in the mountains, where it meant snow, lots of snow, so much snow that Mammoth Mountain is declaring it a record-setting month. And down below, where the wildflowers grow? Well, that remains to be seen, but it shall be seen very soon. ANTELOPE VALLEY CALIFORNIA POPPY RESERVE... is hosting a "two-day volunteer training" for flower fans who want to help out during the season. The first training session is on Saturday, Feb 4, with the follow-up taking place on Saturday, Feb. 11, and, yep, you'll need to plan on being there on both days. Will you be able to bone up on your petal-based knowledge, as well as knowledge of the area? That's definitely part of the training. And, down the road, when the season revs up in March, you might help out in the gift shop, or assist at the visitor center, and you'll definitely meet lots of people (both local and from further on) who'll make the journey to see the orange-tastic show. It's a most excellent way to meet new people (other volunteers as well as visitors) and pursue your poppy passions, all at once.
