Reopening: Palm Springs Aerial Tramway

The ride up the big hill had an eventful summer; now fall rides await.

AUTUMN ALTITUDE: How was your summer? Same old same old? Fairly uneventful? The same cannot be said for the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, which shuttered on multiple occasions. There were the blazes -- first the smoke from the Mountain Fire closed the popular attraction for several days in July, then flames much closer to the tram shuttered it again in early August. This was all ahead of its already scheduled maintenance, which meant it would be locked-down and closed for business from Aug. 10 through Aug. 31. Meaning? It's ready again for view-loving riders on Saturday, Aug. 31. Peaks Restaurant and Pines Cafe, the dining options up the hill, will also be serving diners.

WHAT'S ON IN THE P.S.: Several of the resorts continue their summer savings, and a number host pool events. The Korakia Pensione does its poolside parties come the weekend nights while the Riviera is also doing the splash 'n socialize. And over at The Saguaro Palm Springs? There's a special on for bookings made through Sept. 3: 25% your bill. Please. We love the heat and we love saving money. Don't be dissuaded by triple digits, be intrigued.

AND UP THE HILL... Idyllwild and the mountain communities look to fall happenings and foliage seekers. Oh, right: You know that's one of the best spots to catch a few golden leaves come October and November? Best start your plotting now, leaf peepers.
