Steampunk in Anaheim

VICTORIANA RULES: Steampunk? It's a genre that keeps on chugging. Or perhaps keeps on cogging is more apt. And is it really just a genre at this point, or more of a way of life for many people? The love of outlandish Victoriana, surreal science, and the Jules Verne-ian machinery spawned by works like "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" and "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" continues to inspire conventions and concerts and costumes, seemingly in greater number every year. And the newest addition to the movement? A full exhibit at Muzeo in Anaheim. It's called "Steampunk: History Beyond Imagination," and it will run at the museum through Jan. 9, 2012.

ON DISPLAY: "Artifacts from the Victorian era's greatest visionary writers" will be on display, in addition to a leather helmets, steam-dream devices, and a brass-skinned elephant. That's the very first time we've every personally typed the words "brass-skinned elephant" and doing so provided our own Steampunk-admiring self a certain thrill.

Here's the impressive film produced for the event. Better don that bustle and make for OC, Steampunkians.
