Disney's Grand Californian turns 10 on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
LOBBY LOUNGING: Few hotels have a public space that is truly lounger-friendly. It sometimes feels as if the business wants to get you into the bar, or restaurant, or your room, but not the Grand Californian Hotel. The Disneyland Resort's grand dame boasts an expansive lobby with dozens of chairs and a few couches and a piano, and those aren't even the things we wanted to mention. Nope. What we like best about the big lobby is the wee television playing the 70-year-old Pluto (or Mickey or Donald) cartoons to a rapt audience. And we like those big rockers by the fireplace. Like? Want.
HAPPY 10TH: Why the lobby love today? The Grand Californian and its neighboring park, Disney's California Adventure, turn 10 on Tuesday, Feb. 8. We did not know that the hotel is, in fact, "...the largest structure ever built in the Arts and Crafts style." Giving us a lot of food for thought, and largeness to marvel at, next time we stop to lounge in one of those fireplace-close rockers. Lounge? Want.
